UPDATE: Minnesota Public Radio interview with Dr. Howard McCollister of Project Haiti.
Greetings friends.
As you may know, I am a board member and also Telecommunications Director for the Hopital de Bienfaisance de Pignon Haiti. I make regular trips to both Port au Prince and Pignon to support medical education in Haiti.
First, the good news:
Most of our friends in Port au Prince are ok and accounted for.
Our hospital is located far enough from the epicenter to have been spared major damage. They are in good enough shape to send some people and medical supplies to Port au Prince. The hospital is also preparing for an influx of patients since most medical facilities in the city are heavily damaged and overwhelmed.
Now the not so good news:
My "big" satellite system, which we use for telemedicine and video conferencing is down hard.. I need to get it running when I am in Pignon this March with Project Haiti. Most likely we will need some physical and financial resources to replace broken parts and get the system online again. This system is crucial for the type of trauma care and other needs that we can see coming as a result of this disaster.
So here's my plan:
I need your help to raise $25-$30K to get the system operational. The donate button below connects to Project Haiti, Inc. of Minnesota. I worked with them to build the telecommunications systems we are now working to repair. All donations are tax deductible and properly accounted for. When you donate please designate "Telecom" to be sure your contribution is properly directed.
Please share your thoughts and ideas for how we can raise this money quickly as we will need to acquire the equipment in the next 30 days. I will personally bring it to Haiti (..just like I always do..) on March 19th.
Together we can solve this issue and help our friends in Haiti.
My direct number is 619-925-1456.
